Fasting Intro video.

For this year the theme is from Psalm 34:8-9 (ESV):
"Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack!"
This year we are seeking the Lord. Seeking him to fill us. To speak to us and spend time with him. The goal is to connect with him and set ourselves apart from the world and its distractions.
Fasting is all about denying the flesh and feeding on God. As Jesus said to his disicples: "I have food to eat that you know nothing about." This is him being sustained by God. Fasting is a discipline meaning its something we should practice and grow in. So its really important you begin in a place which is suitable for your given situation. The goal is that we seek the Lord and put our focus on him and are placed in the state of need of him. The simpler it is to implement the fast the better because the goal is to set this time apart and to seek him, to hear from God and to deny our flesh to we can set God first. It's also not about doing the minimum to scrape by the fasting time and counting down the time till you are done.
Fasting must have a purpose. If we don't have a purpose to our fasts we are just going hungry. The most common purposes are to seek the Lord for breakthrough or answers in an area of your life. To strip back everything and hear what he is saying for the upcoming year. Or even just to refocus and rededicate your self to him and to reset bad habits.
This journey is between you and God. As scripture says its not about showing others, it's about what we do when nobody is around. If you reach a stage where you have all that you set out to accomplish great! Keep seeking the Lord and taking time for him. But if you find the purpose of your fast is complete feel free to stop fasting. This time is a great opportunity to grow in the discipline of prayer and fasting not about being legalistic.
Knowing this we would really encourage you to take this time of fasting to hear what the Lord is saying and lets encourage each other by sharing what God is doing during this time!

Types of Fasts
Here you can see all the 2 main ways of fasting. Please take these as guides and seek the lord on what you find suitable to your given situation. This is a personal journey between you the Lord. Its about sticking to what you dedicate to him. Fasting is also a discipline to grow in. Its not a medal of honour to do a super long fast. Its about getting close with God.
Complete Fast
The traditional fast, you drink only liquids, typically water and/or tea or some broth or light juices as an extra option (if you need the salts and something to help balance the water). Its about going for the whole time without eating. Of course if your sick, or unwell. Take it easy and don't just do it because you have to. Doing this for multiple days is intense for the body so please be careful and if its not going well its okay to pause. the most common use of this fast is for 24hours or a few days.
Partial Fast
This fast is sometimes called the “Jewish Fast” and involves abstaining from eating any type of food in the morning and afternoon. This can either correlate to specific times of the day, such as 6:00 am to 3:00 pm, or from sunup to sundown. This is for short periods of time. Many just eat dinner with this fast so they only eat once per 24hours. Its a great way to build into fasting. A second option with this is to alternate this with complete fasting if your building up and growing in the discipline.
